Why There’s No Cat In Christmas

I’m sorry, but cats and Christmas just don’t mix. I know this from personal experience.

Ever have a kitten climb your Christmas tree? At night? I spent an hour the next morning looking for him before he decided to meow. Found him perched at the back of the tree up near the top, naturally.

Or have a cat swipe a glass ornament and use it for his personal toy before hiding it under the couch across the room. (I found it in March.)

And God forbid I put bows on any of the packages. I thought this one bow with pretty curling ribbons kept falling off until I caught my current cat, Vinnie, red-handed, err, pawed, with his claws snagged in the ribbon. He looked up at me as if to say, "Oh, this one wasn't for me?"

And it’s not only indoor cats you have to worry about. My outdoor cat, Miles, is celebrating his first Christmas. Imagine his joy when my son and I were stringing the lights up outside. I’m surprised we got the chore finished before dark. Now all I have to worry about is finding the light string chewed in half. I can see Miles now, orange eyes innocently wide despite every hair on his body standing on end. (Shudder)

Oh, and before I go, let’s not forget the tinsel episode. Last year I decided to put silver tinsel on the tree and had to snatch it back off when Vinnie started slurping it up like strings of spaghetti. Off course, not all of it stayed down and I had a wonderful time cleaning up after him the next few days. It was funny, though, when I went to sift the litter box and found several glittery ‘treasures’. I even invited my sons to come take a look and share in the laughter. After all, isn’t sharing what Christmas is all about?

Merry Christmas to all. Yes, even the cats.

OH, I don't know if I should laugh or say POOOOOR Kittens!

I had to giggle tho' while reading the post, but I felt guilty about it. LOL

See, now you know why I have a dog...a little one, and he's afraid of the tree and anything that goes near it. But put a human in his path and he'll lick them to death!

Ah, you've got to love 'em.

Loved the post! See you next week!

LOL! I have so experienced the crazy tree climbing Christmas cats! Yes, they seem to love everything about Christmas. Great post, very funny and it sure took my back to my kitty days. I miss having them around.

See you next week.

Poor kitties, indeed. I should really be more sympathetic, I guess. Imagine all the temptation they have to put up with.

By the way, what kind of ‘little’ dog do you have. We had Chihuahuas when I was growing up and my mother and brother had white toy poodles up until a few years ago. I’ve always like small dogs—except for the yapping. Don’t think I’ll be giving up my nice quiet cat any time soon. :)

Hey!

I've got a Yorkiepoo...He's black with a white chest. He's 2/3 yorkie and 1/3 poodle with the sweetest eyes...everyone falls in love with him.

He's not a yapper at all...no, mine squeaks...yes, a real squeak.

Once in a blue moon if he hears something he'll bark...but he's pretty quiet most of the time.

Spoiled of course! LOL

I love cats but I'm highly allergic so I can't be around cats. I can't be around regular dogs either...they have FUR and I'm allergic.

I can only be around Yorkies, poodles, Chihuahuas and other dogs that have HAIR - not fur.
My lungs will just close down around fur!
But I love animals...it's so unfair!

I guess God made me allergic because if I weren't - I'd own a Zoo or be the crazy "animal" lady living down the street that everyone talks about having a house full of all kind of animals!
LOL

I'm laughing because my daughter called to tell me her tree fell down...Uh rrriiiight.

Her two large dogs were sleeping at her feet, but I know her cats. She couldn't find a sign of them afterwards, so I rest my case.

Thanks for the post, Kathy. Cute.

Very cute post, Kathy.

I can totally relate as I have two cats myself and the youngest likes eating the glue off tape and sucking up tinsel. I have luckily dogged the "kitten in the Christmas tree episode". But I have had to resort to all plastic ornaments because of the late night glass shattering episodes. lol

Cats are alot of fun and thankfully self sufficient-most of the time. ;)

See you next week.

I have a cat. She has fur and she squeaks...constantly, and she has never once tried to climb a Christmas tree. She doesn't play with ornaments, chase string or gnaw on light strings. I think she maybe flawed. Because i housesit enought to know every other living cat does this. My cat doesn't even eat human food...but thanks for the reminder about the kitty litter.

Love ya. Great blog.

I think it is so funny of the things are pets do around us in life. I think cats are the funniest, especially I can remember a cat we had when we were kids and this cat use to chase a rabbit we had and they would play with each other. Or when our cat use to just sit there and look at the Christmas lights blinking.

Boy, I did some searching and I find out more things about you. You have a book that I am going to read and talk it over with you.
